Birthday Bonus: Cake Drama

Hello once again!

Let's just dive right in, shall we?

I've been planning the 23rd birthday cake since I fell in love with Blink-182 when I was 13. They were the first band that I discovered on my own & the band that introduced me to all my favorite music now. They were also the first band shirt that I owned, first CD I bought, & the whole reason I saved up money to go to Warp Tour.

Long story short: This cake had a lot to live up to.

(Side Note: I will not be sharing the name of the cake company that I purchased the cake from b/c, as pissed as I was, I don't think they deserve any negativity since they did work hard to fix everything afterwards.)

In the February I began planning my party, which is normal for me, & the first thing that I decided on was the cake. There were two photos that I found on pinterest that were exactly how I wanted my cake to look like for my birthday. I chose the cake company that I did b/c I've eaten there multiple times before & they are well known for their amazing cake decor. Two weeks before my birthday the cake order was placed, there was a few emails shared, & the payment was processed.

All good things, right? WELL, when it was time to pick up the cake, the day before my birthday, I could not believe that I was looking at. Below, you see what I ended up with. I loved the cake that I ended up with but that cake that I originally picked up, no.

In the emails it was mentioned that I wanted the cake to look like the photos from pinterest that were attached, however, I wanted the colors to be more vibrant, a red-pink instead of the straight pink, & a slight change in font size. The baker assured me that she understood.

The cake that I picked up disregarded everything that I had mentioned in the emails & was very much focused on the actual album cover instead of any of the reference photos. The colors were not vibrant, instead they were more pastel almost. There were also random dots of black & pink icing all over the cake, which is true to the album cover & not the reference photos. The smiley face, which is the main focus of the cake, was TINY & was more of an oval than anything. There was one additional arrow than needed which caused them to be scrunched up & looked cluttered. The font was backwards & upside down??? Don't ask b/c I don't know. Lastly, there is a small black boarder along the bottom of the cake in the reference photos, it is not hard to see it, & the baker didn't even bother to put it.

Please keep in mind that this cake was $65.

There was a very long email sent in response with photos, where I explained how horrid the cake was & how it was nothing like I had asked. But, ya know, it a mature & adult way of saying it. I ended it by asking if I could either have a refund or if they could redo the cake all together.

That night I received a phone call from the baker who was rather rude, understandably so though, & there was a hard debate between us. I informed them that I reread over all the emails & pointed over very specific items that I had asked for & how they were not delivered. Come to find out that I was not even emailing with the baker, instead, it was some assistant who did not take notes properly for the cake. At least they could take payment correctly.

There was a slight heated moment where the baker explained that they used the album cover as reference & I quoted from the email how I said that the photos were for reference & that the album cover was for size reference, I also mentioned that I owned the album & a shirt with the exact design on it.

In the end, the baker apologized & explained that they will be remaking the cake if I can bring it back in the morning, they offered to deliver it as well. I thanked them & told them that I appreciate it &, while in the middle of explaining that I appreciated them & loved their cakes, they hung up on me. So. Yea.

Anyways, a different baker from the same company redecorated my cake & delivered it. That is the cake that you see below which I ended up loving.

That is the story of my cake drama, hope you all enjoyed!

Arrivederci,

Haunted Lore
