Tis the Season

Leaves dance along the sidewalk, a chill hangs in the air & the undeniable smell of cinnamon & nutmeg is all around.

It's the most wonderful time of the year that goes by several different names:

Spooky Season.

Autumn/Fall

Halloween

The season of pumpkin carving, sweaters, crunchy leaves, hot apple cider, bonfires, Halloween parties, scary movies, & candy!

It has finally arrived!

That being said, it's my favorite time of the year & the time of year that I anticipate all year long. So much so that my house has been decorated since mid-August.

The season, as always, starts off with with celebration of Mabon. If you're unfamiliar with Mabon it is considered the Pagan Thanksgiving & it celebrated as such; a seasonal themed feast, lots of gourds, being grateful for food & the people in your life, & enjoying the weather before the cold settles in. Though that last one can differ depending on where you life, here after Mabon it was still 80 degrees for a while before the weather started to cool off.

This Mabon season I made a roast with beef, potatoes, carrots, squash, ya know, all the season harvestables that are going out of season. 10/10, not to brag. Apple Cider was also made, I'll drop that recipe next post for ya guys. It turned out well & so far everyone else that I have shared the drink with has also enjoyed it.

After Mabon, I took a season break since Halloween was right around the corner, & did some dog sitting. Which is kind of a lie b/c I watched the Dahmer T.V. series on Netflix & Halloween Wars the entire week I dog sat. High recommend both of those by the way. I also started designing my Halloween party flyer, which is both exciting & gives me a bit of anxiety.

If you don't know, the last time I threw a Halloween party none of my friends showed up. That's a lie, four of twenty-six people that RSVP-ed showed up. Only one of those four was someone that I actually someone that was a real friend. I cried, hard, when those four left. Since then I haven't thrown another party & I am a little hesitate for this Halloween party, in all honesty.

"Ad astra per aspera."

Through adversity to the stars

Now that October has graced us with its presence, I'm in full spooky-ooky swing & don't plan on slowing down until November 1st. That's b/c Gabe's birthday is November 2nd & I've got a couple little things planned for him.

Anyways...

Other than the decorations being out, the planning of a Halloween party, seasonal baking, & pumpkin patch visiting, the State Fair is in town too! Well, in state. I love the State Fair; candied apples, fair rides, cool nights, holding hands with your boyfriend, the animals. This is truly my favorite time of the year.

So far this season I've made the Mabon roast, chicken pot pie, & chili (twice). Gabe & I baked apples pie & made rice crispy squares (his first time!) that were Halloween themed with pumpkin seeds & M&M's. That might not sound like a lot but, ya know, take into consideration, it's only October 4th.

On a slightly unrelated side note: my cousin is getting married in two weeks & I don't have a dress yet. Or, any idea of what kind of dress to buy. Or, where to buy said dress that I have no idea about. But, I digress.

For the Halloween party I decided to play it safe & theme it a bit old fashion. Halloween themed games, pumpkin carving, spooky music, & popcorn balls. The snacks might be the most excited part of the party to be honest, in my opinion anyways. Gabe & I went to Spirit Halloween & found the coolest ghost light (Scream is my favorite movie, ya see) for only $30! There were also some other real cool shit there too but none as cool to solo mention like that light.

There was no real point to this post, to be honest, other than to express my excitement for the season & yes, I do promise to record it more often. Starting with the next post: the Apple Cider recipe!

Until Next Time,

Stay Spooky,

Haunted Lore
